THE MEDUSA
Medusa is a fascinating figure in Greek mythology, often associated with her petrifying gaze and snake-like hair. In myth, she was transformed by the goddess Athena into a terrifying monster whose gaze turned anyone who met it to stone. Medusa thus symbolizes the destructive power of the gaze and the power of perspective.
It’s interesting how Medusa is only thought of in a negative way these days, and no one remembers the beautiful young woman she once was. That’s why Beatrice Müller designed a piece of jewelry in honor of Medusa. A cross depicting Medusa’s face, meant to convey the message: “What is the evil eye?”
This ornate cross reminds us that the meaning of a gaze lies not in its nature, but in how we interpret it. Medusa may appear as a scary figure in mythology, but this piece of jewelry challenges us to question our perspective. It invites us to see Medusa’s gaze not as a threat, but as a metaphor for the power of self-reflection and understanding.
The Medusa Cross encourages us to reconsider our judgment and view the world with open eyes and an open heart. It reminds us that truth often lies in the diversity of perspectives and that it is important to show empathy and understanding for the experiences of others. Thus, a mythological monster becomes a symbol of tolerance and the ability to view the world from different perspectives.
